Mastering Social Media this Holiday Season: Three Simple Tips to Keep Your Customers Coming Back for More

If you're trying to sell something on social media, you are wasting your time—people are tierd of your strategy. Discover how you can stand out with these practical tips that will attract loyal followers, drive real engagement, and generate more revenue for you this holiday season.

This morning, I attended a business networking event where I was asked to share some quick social media tips for small business owners leading up to the holidays. The room was filled with professionals from a wide range of industries—telecoms, bookkeeping, pest control, and insurance, to name a few. As the digital marketing expert in the room, I wanted to offer something practical that each of these business owners could take home, no matter industry they were in. Here’s what I shared:

Interrupt People's Days with Value!

This concept has resonated with me for years. As business owners, we’re often cautious about interrupting people’s day with our "Sales" messaging, especially when they didn’t ask for it. But here’s the truth: if what you’re offering solves a problem or fills a need, then people WANT to know about it! The key is to shift our perspective—we need to focus on the value it brings to them and not the benefit it brings to us.

Imagine you're a pest control service, and you create a post highlighting an increase in calls about rodents getting into attics as the weather gets colder. You bring awareness to this issue and include a call to action about sealing up holes and entry points, offering your services to help if needed. This way, you're not just selling—you’re educating and providing a solution.

So, as you build your social media campaigns this season, ask yourself: how does my message make life easier or better for my audience? Whether it’s advice, a time-saving tip, or a problem-solving product, prioritize giving value in every post, so that when you do “interrupt,” it’s a welcome one.

Don't Be Afraid to Be Authentic

Authenticity in social media marketing is no longer optional. People don’t just want polished messages; they want to connect with the real people behind the brand. This can be a challenging balance—being relatable and open while also positioning yourself as a trusted resource.

For example, create a quick video using your phone where you share some valuable tips related to your industry. It doesn't need to be overly polished—just ensure it’s clear, concise, and professional. This kind of content helps your audience see the genuine, human side of your business and can build strong connections.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that when you’re authentic, you may not appeal to everyone, but you will attract the right people. Those are the clients who will value what you do, stay loyal, and even spread the word about your business. So, don’t be afraid to let your audience see the “real” you. Share your journey, your challenges, and what makes your business unique, while still keeping it professional.

Consistency is The Key to Success on Social Media

Small business owners are busy; emergencies come up, and social media often slips down the priority list. But consistency in your brand messaging is critical. Even if you’re only posting once a week, showing up regularly on social media builds trust and keeps your brand top-of-mind.

To maintain consistency, consider using tools like Meta's social planner or a platform that allows you to schedule posts across multiple channels, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X. These tools can save you time and creative energy by streamlining your content planning and distribution process.

Social media won’t demand your immediate attention the way an urgent client call might, but treating it as a regular part of your workflow can make all the difference. This season, set a schedule you can realistically maintain and stick to it. Your audience will begin to expect—and look forward to—your posts, and that consistency helps cement your brand in their minds.

Bringing it All Together

These three points—providing value, being authentic, and staying consistent—are the foundation of every effective social media marketing strategy. Whether you’re a small business in Murfreesboro or an established national firm, remember that your online presence is a reflection of your commitment to your customers.

Attending this event reminded me of the incredible value of community. Everyone there, from telecoms to pest control, had unique challenges, but we were all there to learn and support each other’s growth. Here’s to a successful holiday season filled with meaningful connections and valuable “interruptions” that make a real impact on our customers.
